This is a rare 1943 Groma Modell T typewriter by
G F Grosser Fabrik für Büromaschinen Markersdorf / Chemnitztal
It has the usual German keyboard with the exception of the substitution of the
rare Nazi SS sigrune lightning bolts on the number 3 key in the shifted position.
The keyboard is laid out in the QWERTZ pattern.
The Ä, Ö and Ü keys are also present on the right side of the keyboard.
The condition of the machine is still good with usual wear. It is almost fully operational.
The keys strike well, and it provides a solid, classic typing experience.
It's important to clarify that the main line advance mechanism works perfectly. When using the carriage return lever, the platen advances correctly to the next line, and the line spacing selector for single or double spacing is fully functional.
For the hobbyist who enjoys tinkering, a couple of the more specialized mechanical features could use some attention. The tabulator-setting function, used for complex table layouts, is currently stiff. The only other quirk is that the indexed line-by-line "clicking" can be inconsistent when manually turning the platen knob itself. However, since all normal typing relies on the perfectly working carriage return lever to advance the line, this does not impact the machine's use for any standard writing project.
One spool is original metal, the other one a replacement in plastic.
The lock of the case has the cover and knob missing, but it's still locking the case safely.
It's being offered with these minor mechanical quirks in mind, perfect for someone who appreciates its primary function and rare historical artifact.
The serial number is 234289 which translates to a manufacturing date of 1943.
