30 Years Soviet Architecture
1917-1947

A Stunning STALINIST-ERA Photogravure Volume!

This is an exceptionally rare and high-quality publication from the very beginning of the Cold War.

This is not a standard book; the entire volume is printed in rich photogravure. This expensive and luxurious printing process gives the hundreds of photographs an incredible depth, atmosphere, and nuanced-tone that is impossible to achieve with standard printing. Every image is a work of art.

While the book's title covers 30 years, its clear visual focus is on the massive, monumental, and triumphant projects of the 1930s—the absolute peak of Stalinist / Socialist Classicism. This comprehensive volume showcases the entire scope of the Soviet project. The photography covers major capitals like Moscow (the new model metropolis) and Leningrad. It heavily features the heavy industry "giant" cities built from scratch, with photos from Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk (Tscheljabinsk), Stalinsk, Gorki, Kuibyschew, Molotow, and Swerdlowsk.

As a fascinating contrast, it also showcases the new neoclassical sanatoriums and grand leisure architecture of the Soviet health resorts, including Kislovodsk, Zheleznovodsk (Schelesnowodsk), Yessentuki (Jessenuti), Matsesta (Mazesta), and the famous Black Sea resorts of the Crimea (Krim) and Yalta.
