A very nice photographic record of Old Nuremberg, which is today is the second-largest city of the German federal state of Bavaria after its capital Munich and largest city of Franconia. The photos were taken in the 1930's pre WW2.
It offers a detailed visual documentation of the historical architecture and cityscape of Nuremberg through large-format black-and-white photographs. The focus is on significant buildings, squares, and streets in their historic condition. The viewer will find comprehensive views of the Imperial Castle with the Sinwellturm, the massive Kornhaus-Kaiserstallung, as well as the preserved city wall fortifications including the Tiergärtnertor, Kasemattentor, and the Wasserturm at the Maxbrücke. Religious buildings are represented by the St. Lorenz Church with its distinctive rose window and the St. Sebald Church.
Another major focus is the civic and patrician residential culture of Nuremberg, documented by photographs of world-famous structures such as the Albrecht Durer House, the magnificent Old Town Hall, the Nassauer Haus, the Toplerhaus, and the Fembohaus with its Renaissance gable. Detailed inner courtyard views, for example of the Tucherschlösschen, the Pellerhaus, or the Heilig-Geist-Spital with its fountain, are also part of the volume. The architectural tour is complemented by picturesque cityscapes along the Pegnitz river with its old wooden galleries, historic streets like the Waagstraße or the Schmiedgasse featuring the famous Bratwurst-Glöcklein, as well as monuments like the Hans Sachs Monument.
