The Labor Service
- A Photo Report -

Rare German Arbeitsdienst Book from the Third Reich 1930's depicting young, healthy and strong working men. These are pictures with bare upper bodies, showing them doing hard work in the countryside, digging drainage ditches, filling a wagon or lifting a derailed wagon, but also peeling potatoes, grooming themselves, physical education, and doing morning exercise, all semi-nude.

And of course, generally an overview of the Reichsarbeitsdienst (RAD), what is expected of its members, etc.

Naturally there are more photos (non-nude) of Reichsarbeitsfuhrer Konstantin Hierl, Hierl and A.H. at the 1935 Reichsparteitag, Hierl with Reichsminister Frick, Hierl visiting the RAD barracks, Hierl meeting RAD men, RAD gliding in the Rhön, roll calls, camaraderie, road building, thousands of RAD men marching through Nuremberg during the 1934 and 1935 Reichsparteitag, men from the RAD school in Potsdam marching in downtown Berlin, etc.

Hardcover

  • 120 pages
  • ~64 b/w photo reproductions in gravure
  • foreword by Reichsarbeitsführer (RAD Leader) Konstantin Hierl

In fair to good condition.
As a former school library copy from the "Kreis Main-Taunus" school, it has been laminated for protection. There is a library stamp on the title page. Throughout the book, there are pages with pencil and crayon scribbles, likely from children. Some pages show signs of soiling and there are occasional small tears at the bottom. Despite these flaws, the book is considered a collectible due to its rarity.

All pages are complete and tight in the binding.

Approx/Measurements: 9-3/4" x 7" ~1.0 lbs.
