sub titled: people and landscape between Finland and Russia

This rare book is depicting the breathtaking landscape and inhabitants between Lake Ladoga in the South and Petsamo (Pechengsky District) in the North along the Finnish Russian border.

A luxuriously equipped book with wonderful brilliant colour photographs in letterpress of the highest quality and the worlds first book with color photos of that region. The photos were taken by renowned photographer Hermann Harz with a natural color camera from Bermphol.

Among the plates are: Gulf of Finland, fisherman at Lake Tolvayarvi, sauna at the lake, girl at the loom in Lapland, raftsman, Valaam monastery, monk, farmer from East Karelia, Leila girl from Kuusamo, hunter with bearskin from Paanajärvi, canyon at Oulankajoki, Lappish woman in purnumukka, gold panner, cottagers from Petsamo, at the Arctic Sea.

 This is volume 1 of the intended series "Masterpieces of color photographic art", however due to the war no further volumes have been published as this book was extremely expensive with 48 RM during this time being made of handmade paper and color photo reproductions of the highest quality.

In very good exterior and very good interior condition
With the rare Original Slipcase included and the rare original Dust Jacket included which is tattered. Faint foxing to edges and endpapers, otherwise ok.
