Flag and Standard Bearers
German Album with mounted colored cigarette cards divided into 7 epochs, this collection shows 192
of the most beautiful and colourful flags from the time between 1100 and the outbreak of the world war.
Special consideration was given to the period 1740/86, the reign of Frederick the Great.
Note: A standard-bearer or flag-bearer is a person (soldier or civilian) who bears an emblem called a standard,
i.e. either a type of flag or an inflexible but mobile image, which is used (and often honoured) as a formal,
visual symbol of a state, prince, military unit, etc.
