Greater Germany in World Affairs
- Daily Picture Reports of 1939 -
Published by the Reichs' Ministry for National Education and Propaganda, this album "Grossdeutschland im Weltgeschehen - Tagesbildberichte 1939" was intended to provide a reminder and an example to later generations of the 'heroic' sacrifices of the German nation in the "fight for freedom." The album contain photographs on a wide variety of subjects in the year 1939, and depict all aspects of life on the fighting and home fronts, including among others German military equipment, Hitler addressing the Reichstag, German troops in the field, foreign visitors to Germany, German industry and assembly lines, "atrocities" committed by the 'dastardly foe', the Fuhrer engaged in military, diplomatic and domestic affairs (aided by senior Nazi and Axis officials) and, most importantly, everyday life under the Third Reich....
The photos are arranged with a one-page outline listing the significance of the events of that month, and a list of significant dates is provided before each section of photographs. Normally three or four pages are devoted to any one month's activities with photographs. Each photo is captioned.
This is really the largest Nazi Photo Album, I've ever seen. The weight is 11 lbs. !!!!!
In good exterior and very good interior condition.
Boards lightly dusty/soiled/scratched, one screw head chipped, minor foxing to pastedowns, upper right hand corner of pages lightly crushed, the fragile pebble-grain paper which is protecting the card-board pages with it's photos with occasional creasing, else ok.
The photographs are in near mint condition, beside the toning from age and glue.
All pages are complete and tight in the binding.
Approx/Measurements: 12-1/4" x 17" ~11 lbs.
