KdF Car Brochure

This small German brochure was intended to make the original Volkswagen, the "Kraft durch Freude" (KdF), more appealing to consumers. This brochure is the most beautifully illustrated of the pre-war VW brochures. It contains an excellent full-page color illustration of a man in front of a typical Third Reich house admiring the new "Beetle" while a young boy on the opposite side plays with a cannon and takes his time doing the same.

The text carefully explains the available body styles of the car as well as its origin, design, testing, accessories and specifications. It highlights the car's small parking footprint, fuel-efficient operation, large capacity and durability.

Diagrams in the back of the brochure show that the new Volkswagen performs well on steep hillsides as well as on the Reichsautobahn at 100 kilometers per hour.
Other drawings show braking distance, acceleration time and turning radius. The back cover shows the KdF symbol of the German Labor Front (DAF), which was responsible for manufacturing the Volkswagen.
